Lignano International Beach Rugby 2001

In 2001 Lignano Beach Rugby is once again international, with teams from Italy, Austria, England, Slovenia and Croatia.

The trophy goes to Padova Beach and is lifted by Aldo Aceto, a former italian player and coach who sadly passed away a few days ago. Rest in peace, Aldo!

Lignano Beach Rugby 2000

In 2000 Lignano hosts again the Italian Beach Rugby Championship’s Master Final, for the first time in the beach arena on Lignano Sabbiadoro‘s beach.

Lazio is crowned male champion, and Perle Nere Padova gain female’s trophy.

Lignano Beach Rugby 1999

In 1999, the 7th Beach Rugby Tournament in Lignano is again part of the Italian Championship. Padova Beach confirms his dominance with another win in the male tournament; second place for Leonorso Rugby Udine, qualified for Italian’s Master Final. In the female tournament, after three straight wins Red Panthers Treviso are beaten by Perle Nere Padova in the final

Italian Beach Rugby Master Final 1998

In july 1998 Lignano Sabbiadoro is the venue of the first Italian Beach Rugby Championship’s Master Final.

It’s a final ruled by underdogs: in the male tournament first place for Facoceri Roma over Padova Beach, in the female tournament Grazia Deledda Cagliari overcome Red Panthers Treviso.

Lignano Beach Rugby 1998

In 1998 Lignano Super Beach 5S is one of the stages of the first ever Italian Beach Rugby Championship: second straight win for Padova Beach (again over San Donà in the final) in the male tournament, while Red Panthers Treviso is female’s champion for the third time.

Lignano & Trieste Beach Rugby – 1997

In 1997 begins the time of Padova Beach, champion for the first time in Lignano Sabbiadoro while San Donà loses another final. In the female tournament, Red Panthers Treviso repeats 1996’s success.

During the same summer beach rugby makes his debut also in Trieste during the Sportshow Fair: Ljubljana is the winner.

4th Lignano International Beach Rugby Tournament – 1996

June 1996: fourth edition of the International Beach Rugby Tournament in Lignano, under the patronage of Lignano Sabbiadoro’s Municipality and in partnership with Radio Fantasy.

Red Panthers Treviso wins the first evere female tournament, while Rovigo is male‘s champion.

3rd Lignano Beach Rugby Tournament – 1995

In 1995 Lignano‘s beach rugby become an invitational tournament, and for the first time is played on two days: 16 teams from Italy, Slovenia and Ireland are divided into 4 pools, with qualifying matches on saturday and knockout stages on sunday.

San Donà, Belluno, Rovigo and Ljubljana win their pools: the first two are able to reach the final, and San Donà – featuring Italy’s international Andrea “Ciro” Sgorlon – wins the tournament for the first time.

2nd Lignano Beach Rugby Tournament – 1994

July 1994: for the second time, on Camping Pino Mare’s beach in Lignano Riviera, 15 teams from Italy, Austria, Slovenia and Ireland compete to win the Bridge Park Beach Rugby Trophy.

The tournament is filmed by local television Telefriuli; honored guests are arch. Forster, Councillor for Sports in the Municipality of Lignano, Ariano Venturini, President of Italian North East Rugby’s Committee and Sergio Dordolo, representative of Italian Federation in Udine’s Province.

For the first time in Italy also two female teams play a beach rugby match: the result is a draw between Alpago and Rovigo.

In the men’s tournament, the final is Feltre against Mogliano, with the latter winning their second staight trophy.
